Anyone have any guesses....

Postby Mrs Jones on February 8th, 2010, 5:18 pm

about the subject of the Daily News article (and/or NY Times article, depending on who you're listening to or what you're reading) which supposedly contains information which is gonna take NY Governor Paterson down? I've heard anywhere between ethics violations about/in the company which handles some off-track betting for the state and their association with Paterson to rumors about NYS Police witnessing Paterson having girlfriends (so 2008!) and/or he and the girlfriends using cocaine. For the record, both Paterson and his wife admitted to having affairs before Paterson took office.

I guess all of us New Yorkers can only hope that article comes out SOON!

Hard to tell. This guy is a HOT mess! Seen canoodling with some chick in a restaurant. I mean, I get that he and the W might have some sort of arrangement, but he's the governor of a state, for godssake. Get a frickin' clue. I'll go check out some righty sites and see if I can get the scoop.

I love the Lt Gov candidate here in Illinois who had to remove himself from the ticket after drug and domestic stuff came up...in conjunction with a prostitute! The news conference...gads that was horrid to watch...him blubbering, his kids blubbering, etc. Look, I get it. He had some difficulty in his past and maybe he is over all that nonsense. But in politics, only the very deceitful and careful can make it to office. He should never have run with that stuff on the record.

Huh, Politico has this:

""complaints from insiders — growing noisier in the wake of the award of a gambling contract to a key state politico — about Paterson's "lack of focus on critical issues, his poor work habits and late-night, booze-fueled 'disappearances' at trendy nightclubs and undisclosed locations — when even his state police bodyguards don't know where he is [and] his penchant for spreading false rumors about aides and a peculiar reliance on two little-known assistants.""

""There are likely to be new details about his marital infidelities, but the source added that it's not going to be the bombshell the blogs have predicted. "The piece is PG-13, not XXX," the source explained. "Not to say it won't be problematic, but the Aqueduct situation? That's potentially criminal. On his extramarital affairs, the question is who those people are, and what jobs they've held.""

the NY Post calls it a Spitzer level issue, which I don't think means prostitutes as much as it means it's so bad he's toast. That he had talks with Dems today about whether to resign or announce he's not running for re-election. NY needs a top caliber governor...it is the cradle of our financial system. I hope he gets lost...Cuomo would be a great candidate for the Dem ticket.

LMAO--in SMALLbany? Obviously the writer has never been to the capital of NY!

I would rather it be the Aqueduct situation. I seriously doubt he would resign over affairs, even if there's proof. He's admitted to them before.

Regardless, I'm thinking a LOT of people are searching for ways to give him the bum's rush out of office. He's toast anyway, but I'm thinking even the Democrats are trying to get him out of the way quicker. Being someone who leans toward being a Democrat, I really, REALLY wanted to like this guy but he's made so much of a mess.

It was a shame what happened with Spitzer. He was on Cobert the other night and he's really, really smart. Jesus, he lost it all over a hooker. I don't know if I could find the will to live if I blew up my career over something like that.

Spitzer is very smart but also very full of himself. Regardless, I think he would have done a lot as governor.

Really, I don't think he cared who saw him. I truly believe that his admittance to prior affairs on his part and the part of his wife made him feel he gets a free pass on that issue.

If his wife doesn't care, why should we?

Sure. We got a lot of ignorant busybodies. People vote based on the stupidest things, down to say, the candidate's wife's hairstyle.

Personally, I like Paterson's style. I think the last time we had a gov who's stood up to the legislative game playing was "middle-finger Rockie".

I don't understand the adoration for Cuomo. Just last week our local paper had a front page article on people defrauding Medicare by using ambulances to get around town and then stiffing them for the bill. Where's the AG office?

I don't care who Paterson has dipped his wick into but if it the racing rumor is true, I guess it's time to move on.

As for liking Paterson, well, I just don't but if all this brouhaha is about girlfriends, it's lame. But like you, if it has anything to do with OTB or NYRA, he's toast.

For the record, that whole ambulance thing has always been around and it's a common Medicaid problem since as far back as I can remember. I had clients once who, since they lived near the hospital, called the ambulance from Pizza Hut, and hopped in--pizza, salads, breadsticks and all.
