When did my parents become cooler than me?

As I type, and am cleaning house, chasing child, taking a break from typing a paper, my dad starts texting me.
Apparently he and my awesome stepmom are at a (famous awesome rock band) concert right now.
When did I get so lame?

You know what's sad? He asked me "you have any requests? I'll ask <lead singer's rather infamous initials>, see what I can do"

I had no idea who he was talking about. Not one clue. And I had posters of this man on my bedroom wall all throughout junior high. Sheesh.

So yeah, believe me, I KNOW 50something is NOT OLD, but apparently 35 IS.

God, I can relate. My parents travel...extensively...they call it "spending your inheritance" My mother has gotten tattooed, been kayaking and walked on glaciers. I shuttle children to and fro and try to make a pound of pasta into something edible.

Few years back they were sharing photos of their latest adventure...lo and behold in the middle of the pic pile were a few of them together, in a hot tub....each toasting with a glass of bubbly...my sibling's deadpan remark was "ok, so who is taking the picture...wait, no, I don't want to know"

THIS!!! They hop in the convertible and go to college bowl games states away, and my stepmom looks hotter now at damn near 50 than I did IN HIGH SCHOOL. And not in that gross tanorexic acrylic nail way. She's tan and has good nails but she's just a beach babe with good luck. And how are her NATURAL boobs perkier than mine were in freaking JUNIOR high let alone high school? Ugh.

I so need a vacation.

Every weekend it seems like they're going to some new workshop class thing to learn a new hobby, just because it looks interesting. Right now, I'd be glad to have 30 minutes of peace and quiet before 10:00 p.m.

Roger that. Later we're heading out for Mondo 'Ritas then on to Salsa lessons and dancing at a club that has an awesome live band. Leaving $25 at home for pizza.

LOL.....mine discovered the "order pizza and leave receipt on the table" trick. Didn't work over the summer when I was HOME by 5pm and they had ALREADY ordered the pizza.....

Last summer I went to Hemp Fest with my daughter and a bunch of her friends. I was feeling a little worried about being out of place, until I started getting introduced to all the other parents there with their young adult children.

In a couple of years, those kids will start having kids and have to go through their own long, uncool years.

This year, we're getting a hotel room so we can go to both days of Hemp Fest.
